Funding Guidelines

Over 56 different nonprofit human care organizations receive charitable support and each year newly organized agencies become affiliated with the Navajo United Way, Inc. Agencies which receive contributions are intended to provide human care services to the Navajo Nation residents.

For consideration, your organization must meet a minimum of 3 determination criteria in each section:

Organizational Intent Woman and child  learning together
  • Confront old problems with new solutions
  • Programs which serve individuals at risk and people under social/economic stress
  • Engage in prevention of or early intervention in problems affecting families, youth, and the aged.
  • Services which promotes healthy and constructive personal development
  • Services which will enhance community and individual self sufficiency
  • Programs which serve individuals whose life or basic lifestyle would be endangered without such assistance
  • Services which promote/assist family stability and cohesion
  • Programs which stimulate orderly change
  • Service which intend to enable individuals to better exist and function in changing social and natural environment
Program Accountability
  • Needs for funding can be documented
  • Programs which work towards specific objectives
  • Services which have monitoring or evaluation components
  • Programs which seek to achieve standards of excellence in service delivery and with the community served
  • Services whose accountability can be actively transmitted to the public
Financing
  • Services which demonstrate efforts and abilities to attract non Navajo United Way support
  • Programs which do not duplicate services mandated by law as responsibilities of government
  • Programs whose concentration is upon service delivery as financed by multiple sources of funding
  • Programs which have access to an annual audit of financial statements and reporting
Management
  • Agencies which possess the internal capabilities to manage services and account for the use of organizational revenues
  • Agencies responsibly governed by active and voluntary Board of Directors
  • Agencies with access to viewpoints and recommendations from consumers
  • Agencies which demonstrate ethical standards in service delivery and management of finances
