Projects of the AllocationsNavajo United Way, Inc. as the United Way for the Navajo Nation, provides monetary grants to approved and affiliated human care organizations that serve residents of the Navajo Nation in need. We also assist human care organizations with various sponsored projects that supplement and improve the quality and quantity of services available to clients. Among the many projects sponsored and delivered by Navajo United Way, Inc. to non-profit organizations are the following.
Non-profits are encouraged to review these areas of support and determine whether participation in one or several will be of benefit. Interested non-profits need not be affiliated with the Navajo United Way, Inc. through grant support only, in order to participate. Some of the projects offered require a small fee to participate. Others are available free of charge. Contact the Navajo United Way, Inc. administration today to find out more and how your organization may become involved. For over 20 years ... caring and sharing... has been, the Navajo United Way! One of the first projects of supplemental support provided to non-profits under Navajo United Way, Inc. sponsorship, the project makes monetary reimbursement to agencies that serve meals to age-eligible children in shelters, day-care and parenting development settings. Operating under a grant from the State of Arizona and Federal USDA, the program intent is to improve the quality of food service and meals taken by clients in temporary service settings that are either emergency or programmatic delivery. Since its beginnings, Navajo United Way, Inc. has provided well over $50,000 in reimbursements to participants in this project. Last year alone, over $10,000 in reimbursements was remitted. Interested agencies should make their interest known to Navajo United Way, Inc., be prepared to answer questions to determine eligibility and willing to work with Navajo United Way, Inc. as sponsor to implement quality and nutritious meal services to clients. The project is also available to senior day-activity centers and helps a great deal to off-set the costs associated with serving quality meals to clients of non-profits. Development Services Development of exemplary staff and leadership is one of a non-profits greatest assets. It is also one of its greatest challenges in present times of competitive for-profit service delivery and diminishing government services. Non-profits that are established and have the capacity to deal with critical social and community issues are growing in number and in high demand across the Navajo Nation. Volunteers, clients, community leaders and those that represent the needs of others expect non-profit organizations to be accountable, client-friendly and to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Personnel that deliver an organization's services must be qualified, knowledgeable, caring and committed to the needs of those they serve. Because the services non-profits deliver to residents of the Navajo Nation are critical, the Navajo United Way, Inc. sponsors the conduct of training and development sessions throughout the year. The topics covered are offered by professionals and culturally diverse leaders in the field of non-profit organizational development and program management. Call to receive a current schedule of upcoming training sessions, (see calendar). Another project of support Navajo United Way, Inc. provides is Donations Distribution. Agencies, schools and government programs are eligible to apply to participate and receive donations of products, supplies, merchandise and equipment on an as-received and notified basis. The Donations Distribution registers organizations, schools, and programs according to their proven services to Navajo Nation residents, irregardless of age, ethnicity, sex or handicapping condition. Currently agencies must register a remittance of a $50 non-refundable fee annually, complete a registration application and show evidence of existence and services. The fee helps to support the administration of the project. Agencies which participate with Donations Distribution (DD) program receive over the amount of remitted fee in donated items and where the donated items are specifically requested by an agency, additional shipping cost and service fees are sometimes incurred. The Navajo United Way, Inc. will notify an organization, however, if additional costs are to be incurred as part of the receipt of products. Selected retailers participate in the Retail Donations Project with the Navajo United Way, Inc. These stores provide to Navajo United Way, Inc. affiliates over-stock merchandise. The Navajo United Way, Inc. organization is notified and in turn, affiliates receiving grants or registered with the Donations Distribution are notified of the availability of merchandise. Receipt of merchandise is available only to registered participants that have remitted to Navajo United Way, Inc. a $15 non-refundable registration fee. Security codes are assigned to registered participants by Navajo United Way, Inc. to ensure that merchandise is received by Navajo United Way, Inc. affiliates and/or Donation Distribution agencies. At present, retailers participating in this project are clothing retailers. Agencies that benefit from this project are those who provide services to clients with basic necessities as part of their mission. Other types of agencies notified of the availability of merchandise from retailers are those that provide emergency "re-building" to families who may have lost everything and/or seek "residential" services to deal with a specialized need. The Project is currently not available to Public School Districts, Private and/or Contract schools. In the future, the project has the potential to expand and include schools, etc. The project is not limited to only clothing retailers but also retailers of household merchandise, home improvement wares, personal care products, men's clothiers, etc. may and are encouraged to participate. Individuals in the process of re-building their lives, seeking employment or other activities will benefit from agencies which have available, the supplies needed for their use. It is an added way in which your agency/program can better serve the people of your community! Gifts In Kind is unique. It provides the opportunity for human care non-profits serving residents of the Navajo Nation to expand upon internal capacity and expertise. The Gifts In Kind Project is a component of the Allocations Department within the Navajo United Way, Inc. Registration with the Navajo United Way, Inc. is required to participate in the Project. Non-profits that register to participate in the Project must pay a $20 non-refundable participation fee, operate as a 501(c)(3) organization, have verification of state incorporation and services and/or intended services to Navajo Nation residents. By-law documentation for organizations currently not providing public services and/or documentation from grantors, etc. for agencies which serve clients representing multiple geographic residents. By registration, your agency will enable itself according to name, location, intent and need with the donated resources provided by donated corporate volunteers across the United States. Potential volunteers with professional expertise, skills and connections as well as local and non-local students will know about your organization and what you need to function and grow.
