You have been selected by the head of your Division to be a Keyworker in the Navajo United Way, Inc. campaign. What is a Keyworker? A Keyworker is one of the most important ingredients to success for the Navajo United Way, Inc. campaign in his/her agency. They use their leadership, motivational and organizational skills to share words about the annual Navajo United Way, Inc. fund drive.
Ingredients of an effective Keyworker are: Enthusiasm, Generosity, Creativity, Motivational Skills, Communication Skills, Leadership Abilities, Organizational Skills, Energetic, Volunteer Spirit, and Confidence.
Know the Basics: What is the Navajo United Way, Inc. Campaign?
The Navajo United Way, Inc. campaign began in 1983 to provide an opportunity for EMPLOYEES across the Navajo Nation to support non-profit services delivered to people in need.
It was also created to allow eligible charitable organizations to solicit donations without promoting any particular agency, cause or local community. The campaign is conducted in the Fall of each year.
Over 4,000 workers in Navajo, Apache, Coconino and McKinley counties participate in the Navajo United Way, Inc. campaign. If every employee gave just $1 per month through payroll deduction, over $500,000 would be collected to benefit the charities of choice.
The design of the campaign brochure makes it easy to give. Employees simply browse through the brochure and find their favorite charity. They can choose to give back to their own communities in a local area, or they can choose to contribute at a state, national, or non-local level.
Talk to your department director about scheduling some time to tell your fellow workers about the Navajo United Way, Inc.
Informal gatherings of staff provide great opportunities for talking about the Navajo United Way, Inc. and affiliated agencies. If available, show the Navajo United Way, Inc. video and ask everyone to fill out their pledge cards during or immediately after the meeting. If staff meetings are not available, be sure to talk to each employee one-on-one about what the Navajo United Way, Inc. is and how much their contribution helps.
Be sure to make full use of posters, e-mail reminders, agency newsletters and other available forms of communication to spread the words about the Navajo United Way, Inc. campaign. Sample letters, memos and e-mail reminders are available from the Navajo United Way, Inc.
funding development staff. Also be sure that every employee is given a pledge card and brochure.
Collect Pledges, Tally Results, and Submit to Navajo United Way, Inc.
Encourage every employee to complete their pledge cards and return them to you as soon as possible. Remember to remind everyone that it is their choice not only to give but also to give to the charity that appeals most to their beliefs and values.
Once all the pledge forms are in, complete the pledge form and collect results and place in the provided envelope. It is critical that the original (top) copies of the pledge form be submitted to your Payroll Office by the campaign deadline. Attached copies are to be placed in the envelope and submitted to Navajo United Way, Inc. staff at the address on the envelope. The original may be xeroxed as receipts for the individual donors.
